View across lake - Fete Champetre July 2004
Stourhead prepares for a night with the stars:
22/03/2006
The National Trust has announced that the famous Fête Champêtre will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Stourhead Garden on the evenings of Friday 21 and Saturday 22 July. This year event goers are encouraged to enter into the spirit of the theme, "A Night with the Stars" by attending the event dressed as their favourite star of stage, screen or the firmament!
Entertainment throughout the 120 acre landscape garden will include music celebrating the golden age of the movie musical, the melodies of the Dance Band era, the jazz greats and Broadway Babes. The 'Rat Pack'is back and Abba UK will be arriving with a host of chart topping hits. The romance and drama of Mozart's most popular operatic arias will fill the air, appropriately sung from the steps of an eighteenth-century temple.
Prepare to be surprised by a host of flamboyant characters as you wander along the illuminated lakeside paths. Meet Sir Ralph Luvvie in his motorised armchair, Titan the singing robot, gorgeous pouting starlets, ghastly Oscar award winners, seedy tabloid journalists, zealous cosmetics ladies, and even Elvis with a clutch of adoring housewives from Bristol! Those with Stars in their Eyes can display their talents in the Karaoke Glade while the lakeside dance floor will be expecting some budding Fred and Ginger's!
The Stourhead Fête Champêtre is famous for its fireworks - a dazzling finale over the lake. But it is the audience that gives the Fête Champêtre its special atmosphere. Over the years, their enthusiasm for dressing in different costumes and for bringing splendid picnics to enjoy in this beautiful garden has contributed much to the enduring appeal of the event.
As the Daily Telegraph said,"If I could be anywhere in the world this evening, I would choose to be at Stourhead " while the Bath Chronicle said, "A breathtaking spectacle...simply as perfect a night as one could ever wish to experience".
